HL Deb 05 December 1946 vol 144 c708WA
THE DUKE OF MONTROSE

asked whether arrangements have been made for the appointment of representative contingents of the R.N.V.R. and Sea Cadets to the crews of warships detailed for the royal tour to South Africa, and if so, whether these contingents will be drawn from all parts of the United Kingdom.

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (VISCOUNT HALL)

Some R.N.V.R. officers will be appointed to H.M.S. "Vanguard" and escorting ships, but no rating volunteers have been called for because the total numbers so far enrolled in the post-war R.N.V.R. are small, recruiting having only just commenced. His Majesty The King has approved the embarkation of twelve Sea Cadets in H.M.S. "Vanguard" for the royal tour; these cadets are being drawn from both closed and open units from all over England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

House adjourned at eight o'clock.
