Mr. J. L. Williams

asked the Minister of Labour the numbers of insured persons in Glasgow registered as unemployed on the latest available date under the categories of engineering, metal industries, shipbuilding and ship-repairing, textiles, clothing, transport, building and the distributive trades, respectively.

Mr. Isaacs

At 14th October the numbers of insured persons in the industries in question registered as unemployed at employment exchanges in Glasgow were as follow:

Engineering 3,122
Construction and repair of motors, aircraft and vehicles 1,289
Metal goods manufacture and other metal industries 1,434
Shipbuilding and ship-repairing 1,773
Textiles 271
Clothing 317

The numbers of insured persons registered as unemployed at employment exchanges in Glasgow at 14th October were:

Men aged 18 and over 19,111
Women aged 18 and over 7,289
