HC Deb 04 December 1946 vol 431 c107W
125. Mr. Paton

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state, for each of the three services for the 12 months ended 31st October, 1946, the total number of male personnel released under the age and service principle; the average length of service in each branch of the men discharged; and what proportion, for each service, do these totals represent of the service strength on 30th June, 1945.

Mr. Isaacs

The figures asked for in the first and third parts of the Question are as follow:

per cent.
Royal Navy 469,250 59.5
Army 1,674,260 57.1
Royal Air Force 572,670 59.5

The information asked for in the second part of the Question is not readily available and could be obtained only by the expenditure of an undue amount of labour which would delay other urgent work.
