§ 103. Mr. D. Griffithsasked the Assistant Postmaster-General why the airmail postage rate between this country and the U.S.A. is double the amount charged in the opposite direction; and if he contemplates reducing the United Kingdom rate to a similar level to the U.S. rate.
§ Mr. BurkeThe recent reduction in the air mail postage rate from the U.S.A. to this country from 30 cents per ½ oz. 103W (equivalent to 1s. 6d.) to 15 cents per ½ oz. (equivalent to 9d.) formed part of a general reduction in U.S.A. overseas air mail rates. The question of reducing air mail rates from this country to the U.S.A. is being considered and my noble Friend hopes that it will prove possible to reduce the present rate of 1s. 3d. per ½ oz.
§ 108. Sir P. Macdonaldasked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether his inquiries into the possibility of a reduction in the air-mail rate of postage charged by his Department are now complete; and whether he is in a position to make a statement.
§ Mr. BurkeThe inquiries are not yet complete, but they are being pressed forward and a statement will be made as soon as possible.
