§ Mr. Challenasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if his attention has been called to the recent conviction at the Old Bailey of Alex Canning Kostanda, who was sentenced to four years' penal servitude for housebreaking and assaulting a police constable; if he is aware that although this person is an alien, he was employed, from March to December, 1944, as an assistant Press censor at the Ministry of Information; and what inquiries the Ministry made before employing him in that capacity.
§ Mr. DaltonI have had inquiries made, and my information is that 237W Kostanda is not an alien, but that the facts in regard to his employment by the Ministry of Information are as stated. The usual inquiries as to record and references were made before this man was engaged, and the results were satisfactory.
