THE EARL OF MANSFIELDasked His Majesty's Government if they will state 1007WA why all British subjects, under a regulation necessary in war, but intolerable in peace, are compelled on arrival at an hotel to fill up a lengthy form, instead of merely signing the hotel register; and whether they are prepared to withdraw forthwith this example of totalitarian prying into the movements of the citizens of the realm.
§ LORD WALKDENThe regulation which the noble Lord has in mind was revoked by an Order in Council made on December 7, 1945 (S.R.O. 1945 No. 1535). A British subject staying at an hotel or similar premises need now only have his name, nationality and the date of his arrival entered in the hotel register.
