58. Lieut.-Commander Clark Hutchisonasked the Minister of Labour whether he will take steps to ensure that men who volunteer for further service in the Forces under the terms recently announced will continue to come within the scope of the Reinstatement in Civil Employment Act, 1944
§ Mr. Ness Edwards:Any right to reinstatement conferred by the Reinstatement in Civil Employment Act is subject to the provision that the obligation placed on employers by Section 1 of the Act comes to an end after six months have elapsed from a date to be declared by Order in Council to be the end of the present emergency. This date has not yet been fixed and my right hon. Friend cannot anticipate the decision. If, however, the emergency is declared at an end 482W for this purpose within three or four years, the position of men whose release from the Forces occurs at a later date as a result of voluntary re-engagement will obviously be affected.
