§ 34. Mrs Middletonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that there is little security of tenure for Government employees in the lower grades of the Tanganyika Civil Service, and that they have no definite pension rights; and if he will take steps to remedy this situation.
§ Mr. George HallThe conditions of employment of non-pensionable European officers in the Tanganyika service are governed by formal agreements entered into between the officer and the Government. These agreements are as a rule valid for three years only but, in practice, the appointment of a non-pensionable officer would be terminated only for good reason. As regards pension rights, I am making representations to the Governor and I am hopeful that the Tanganyika Territory Government will give early and sympathetic consideration to the introduction of a contributory pension scheme.
