Mr. De la Bèreasked the Minister of Town and Country Planning whether, arising out of the Interim Report of the New Towns Committee and the problem of the congested urban areas and their development, he will give an assurance that the maintenance of green belts in full farming use will be an integral feature of the planning system.
§ Mr. Silkin:The provision of an adequate green belt is an essential part of the planning of a new town, and the agricultural user of the land within it will be preserved subject to permitting the special forms of development which are normally allowed in a green belt.
