§ 36. Squadron-Leader Donnerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what reply has been received by His Majesty's Ambassador at Warsaw to the inquiry concerning the date of the elections in Poland; and whether His Majesty's Ambassador has received any reply to his reminder that Monsieur Bierut at Potsdam took the view that these elections could be held this spring.
Mr. McNeil:As regards the first part of the Question, His Majesty's Ambassador at Warsaw has now been informed by the Polish Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs that a referendum will probably take place in June and that he expects the elections to be held in September or, more probably, October. As regards the second part of the Question, I regret that His Majesty's Ambassador has not yet been informed of the reasons for the deferment of the elections beyond the period agreed with Monsieur Bierut at Potsdam.
