HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 c289W
85. Mr. P. Wells

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will now reconsider his decision not to make available to the Sheerness Urban District Council seven empty houses on the Well Marsh Estate, Sheerness; and if he has any statement to make in this matter.

Mr. Lawson:

These houses were unoccupied in December pending repairs to fit them for their original purpose of providing officers' married quarters. It then became necessary to use them again as accommodation for troops. The troops left three weeks ago, and as soon as labour can be made available, the houses will be repaired and taken into use again as quarters. In view of the shortage of married accommodation for the Army, I regret I am unable to release the houses at present.
