HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 c303W
Colonel J. R. H. Hutchison

asked the Minister of Transport how many Government owned ships have been sold, and how many remain unsold.

Mr. Barnes:

Two hundred and eighty-eight Government owned merchant ships have been sold, and out of about 230 ships remaining in Government ownership, 53 have been chartered on bare boat terms to shipowners for periods of three or five years. These figures do not include tugs and other small craft.
