HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 c283W
36. Mr. Renton

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that many argicultural workers were erroneously registered on call up as lorry drivers, tractor drivers, etc.; and if he will take steps to enable such workers to be released for agricultural work.

Mr. Isaacs:

I am aware that men whose normal employment was in agriculture, but who immediately before enlistment were engaged on work outside agriculture, will not be shown in Service records as agricultural workers and will not, therefore, receive offers of release under the Class B block release arrangements for that industry. Such men were not erroneously registered, but arrangements have been made for war agricultural executive committees to consider applications from agricultural employers for the release of agricultural workers who do not receive offers of release under the block arrangements and, in appropriate cases, to recommend their release through the agricultural departments.
