HC Deb 04 April 1946 vol 421 c228W
68. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Secretary to the Treasury for what purpose the Central Office of Information has commissioned a bust of the right hon. Member for Woodford (Mr. Churchill) by Mr. Jacob Epstein; what other sculpture has been or is to be commissioned -by that office; and on what principles and by whom such matters are decided.

Mr. Glenvil Hall:

This bust was commissioned by the War Artists Advisory Committee on behalf of the Ministry of Information in September, 1945, for inclusion with other busts and paintings of war leaders in the art collection recording the war. It was not possible to fix the sittings before the Ministry of Information was wound up. Special arrangements had therefore to be made to complete this and one or two other outstanding commissions. The War Artists Advisory Committee has now been wound up and forms no part of the functions of the Central Office of Information.
