79. Mr. H. Wallace

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has yet under consideration an office regulation Bill to establish conditions of work ensuring adequate space, heat, light and ventilation, and arrangements for inspection of premises to enforce the regulations.

Mr. Ede:

As I announced on 19th December a committee under the chairmanship of Sir Ernest Gowers has been appointed by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and myself to consider, inter alia, the extension, strengthening or modification of the statutory provisions relating to the health, welfare and safety of persons employed at places other than those regulated under the Factories or Mines and Quarries Acts, and the machinery for enforcing such provisions. I must await the committee's report.
