HC Deb 04 April 1946 vol 421 cc225-6W
70. Mr. P. Wells

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General why compensation is refused to Mr. George W. West, of Wig-more, Gillingham, Kent, for loss of a registered package containing the sum of £3, forwarded to him by his wife in an official envelope, whilst he was serving on H.M.S. "Berwick" on 21st September, 1945.

Mr. Burke:

The registered letter was delivered by the Fleet Mail Office to the ship's Postman on H.M.S. "Berwick" on the 28th of September, 1945. Owing to the absence of the ship overseas it has not been possible to complete the inquiries regarding the subsequent disposal of the letter, but I hope that it will be possible to do so shortly and I will write to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
