§ Sir B. Smith:There is no reliable information about the total food stocks in the United Kingdom in March, 1938, and, in any event, they would not be comparable with current stock levels as there was then no food control and supply conditions were totally different. The total of Ministry owned and controlled stocks of food and feeding stuffs in the United Kingdom at the end of March, 1946, is provisionally put at 3.9 million tons.
