HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 c155W
89. Mr. W. Shepherd

asked the Minister of Works if he is aware that the supply of whiting is inadequate to meet the needs of the country; and what steps he is taking to bring this up to our needs.

Mr. Tomlinson:

I am aware that whiting is in short supply. As a result of intensive efforts, however, there has been substantial recruitment to the industry, and every effort will continue to be made to meet the further labour demands. Plans have also been made for the extension of existing industrial capacity.
