HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 c161W
99. Captain Crowder

asked the Minister of Works on what terms the managing companies responsible for the storage and distribution of temporary housing supplies are remunerated; and what is the total cost of this service up to date.

Mr. Tomlinson:

Two of the large managing contractors for the temporary house programme are to be paid a fixed fee for their services. The remuneration of the other two large firms is still under negotiation. For the smaller firms, the remuneration is either an inclusive fee per ton or per item handled, or a percentage on costs. The cost of storage and distribution centres, including an allowance for the fees of the managing contractors, up to the end of last month is estimated at £31,292,000.
