HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 cc149-50W
Sir G. Fox

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the annual rent of the Spread Eagle Assembly Hall, Thame, which is requisitioned by his Department; where the accounts can be found for money received for each night it is let for private functions at the rate of £1 for rent and £1 for insurance; and whether he is aware that this hall has been let three times a fortnight for the last 18 months, apart from military dances.

Mr. Lawson:

The annual compensation rental of Spread Eagle Assembly Hall, Thame, is £115. In addition the owners are repaid £7 10s. per annum in respect of the Fire Insurance Premium. Letting charges for private functions held in this property are paid to the District Paymaster, Oxford. I am aware that there are frequent demands for the hire of this Hall from civilian sources, and these have been met wherever possible. The Hall is no longer required by the War Department and will be derequisitioned provided it is not required by any other Department.
