HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 c162W
110. Major Leģ ģe-Bourke

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he is aware that certain cottage dwellers in the rural areas, who are solely dependent on coal for heating and cooking, are receiving an allotment of only 1 cwt. per week; whether this is a general order; and what prospects exist for an increase before the winter is over.

Mr. Shinwell:

Supplies may be authorised for premises entirely dependent on coal up to 54 cwt. per annum, or about 1 cwt. per week in the South, and slightly more in the North, but actual deliveries may have been a little short of this figure. I am sorry that no increase in these allowances is likely in the near future but any consumer who is suffering hardship may seek the assistance of the local fuel overseer.
