asked the Secretary of State for War what steps are being taken to reduce the cost of requisitioned property occupied by British troops in Belgium substantially below the present high figure.

Mr. Lawson:

There has been a considerable and progressive reduction in the cost of rent for requisitioned premises in Belgium since December, 1945, and the responsible authorities are fully aware of the urgent necessity for retaining the minimum amount of accommodation under requisition.
