§ Mr. Mainwaringasked the Minister of Fuel and Power what representations he has had concerning the possible reopening of the Mardy collieries; if he has considered the matter; and with what result.
§ Mr. ShinwellRepresentations concerning the possible reopening of the Mardy Colliery have been received from the Ferndale and District Chamber of Trade. This colliery has been kept on a care and maintenance basis sinceit was closed in October, 1940, when the face machinery was transferred to other collieries. As regards the labour position, neighbouring collieries are already under-manned, and there may be certain difficulties in transferring labour. I am, however, making further inquiries and will communicate with my hon. Friend.
