§ Viscountess Davidsonasked the Minister of Supply and of Aircraft Production if, in view of the threat to employment in many industries due to the shortage of tin, he will state what steps are being taken to enable the Malayan tin industry to resume production at the earliest possible date.
§ Mr. WilmotRepresentatives of the Ministry of Supply are in Malaya to purchase readily available tin ore and metal and to report on the condition of the smelting plants. An expert appointed by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies to advise on the rehabilitation of the tin industry has submitted provisional plans and has now gone to Malaya, together with a committee representing the Malayan tin industry which is to survey the mining properties and equipment. Meanwhile orders have been placed in this country by the Government for substantial quantities of equipment for gravel pump mines.
