§ Sir P. Macdonaldasked the Secretary of State for War when it is anticipated that the banks in British Malaya will be 2165W able to resume normal business and permit their customers to draw funds which stood to the credit of their accounts before the occupation of Malaya by the Japanese.
§ Mr. LawsonThe banks in Singapore have already re-opened to transact new business. They are unable to allow withdrawals from balances standing in accounts at the time of the Japanese occupation until they have had time to investigate the position of the accounts, and I am unable at present to forecast when the investigations will have been completed.
