asked the Minister of Education if she will investigate the delay in making the grant payments to ex-Service men and women now started on approved university courses.

Payment of the first instalment of maintenance grant is made on the receipt in my Department of a certificate from the student's college authorities that he or she is in attendance. There is always the possibility of delay on the part of the college in forwarding this certificate, but once it is received in the Department grant payment is made in a few days.
