§ Commander Maitlandasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that it has recently been necessary to closedown the maternity ward of the County Infirmary, Louth, in view of the shortage of mid wives; whether the Appointments Branch of his Ministry will assist in this matter; and what steps are being taken by himself in consultation with the Minister of Health to overcome the present shortage of nurse-midwives throughout the country.
