§ Mr. McAdamasked the Prime Minister if he has any proposals to make in regard to the recruiting of officers for the Military Forces; and if he will be prepared to consider making it compulsory that there must be a qualifying period of one year's service in the ranks before attaining to officer's rank.
§ Mr. BellengerI have been asked to reply. The recruitment of Regular Army officers is at present restricted to candidates already holding commissioned rank. By reason of the system of call-up during the war, such candidates will, in the majority of cases, have served for a period in the ranks. The future method of recruitment is now under consideration as part of the general planning for the post-war Army, but I can assure my hon. Friend that the point he has in mind has not been overlooked, and is being considered.
