§ Mr. A. HendersonCommunal disturbances broke out suddenly in Bombay City on the night of 26th September with a clash between bodies of Mohammedans and Hindus. The cause is still obscure. Stone-throwing, looting of shops and isolated instances of stabbing persisted for a few days. Indian and British troops were called in to assist in the restoration of order, but it was found possible to withdraw them on 8th October. The disturbances resulted in the death of 39 persons and a total of 177 injured.
