§ Mr. Hardyasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that hundreds of houses in industrial areas have been rendered unfit for habitation due to bombing; that the usual orders are made upon the landlords; that in many cases the landlords are unable to get contractors to remedy the repairs owing to the difficulty of obtaining the necessary materials required; and if he is prepared to give priority to the local authorities affected to supply the materials required to the landlords who are willing to do the repairs.
§ Mr. BevanLocal authorities have been authorised to issue licences to private persons wishing to carry out repairs to war-damaged houses. Permits for materials would then be issued in the usual way. If my hon. Friend has any particular cases in mind where difficulties have been experienced and would let me have deails, I will be glad to look into them.
