§ Commander Agnewasked the Minister of Fuel and Power (1) if he will now publish the Report of the Technical Committee set up to inquire into the possibilities of mineral development in the Carn Brea area of Cornwall; and if he will state the policy of the Government on the matter;
(2) if he will make a statement on the development of non-ferrous metal deposits in Britain.
§ Mr. ShinwellAfter considering the report of the Committee of technical experts appointed by my predecessor to examine the special problem of the Cam Brea area, I have come to the conclusion that the changed circumstances and economic conditions resulting from the war call for a comprehensive inquiry into our metalliferous resources in this country and the best way of developing them in the national interest. I, therefore, pro-706W pose in the near future to appoint a committee with wide terms of reference to review this question as a whole. The scope of this Committee's investigations would, of course, extend to the Cornish tin mining industry and the report of the Technical Committee to which the hon. and gallant Member refers would be made available to them. I hope to be in a position to make a further statement very shortly.
