§ Sir W. Smithersasked the Minister of Supply and of Aircraft Production if he can give an estimate of the number of old motor tyres collected at dumps all over the country; and in view of the shortage of tyres both in Britain and on the Continent, what steps he is taking to make use of these old tyres.
§ Mr. LeonardThere are some 9,000,000 old motor tyres on the dumps. The great bulk of them are only suitable as scrap rubber for reclaiming, for which there is no shortage of material at present. The dumps are being searched, however, and so far 210,000 tyres with some further life have been sorted out for use in liberated areas or at home.
