§ Sir J. Mellorasked the Secretary of State for War when No. 30 British General Hospital was sent to Norway and for what purpose; how many patients were attended in Norway and of what nationality; what was the total strength of the hospital; and when was it brought back to the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. LawsonNo. 30 General Hospital was sent to Norway on 6th June, 1945. Its purpose was, in conjunction with other medical units, to provide for the care and treatment of the Allied occupation force and liberated Allied prisoners of war. One hundred and twenty-five in-patients and between 300 and 400 out-patients were treated, together with 559 dental cases. The records relating to the out patients are not available in the United Kingdom. The in-patients and dental cases were wholly Allied and mainly British. The total strength of the unit was 23 officers, including 18 R.A.M.C., 40 nursing officers and 159 others. The unit returned to the United Kingdom on 3rd August, 1945. It will be appreciated that when the unit was despatched to Norway it was not known what difficulties would be encountered by the occupying force.
