HC Deb 09 October 1945 vol 414 c56W
Flight-Lieutenant Teeling

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that Alderney, Channel Islands, is now considered to be on home service; that there are so far practically no civilians and no shops there and soldiers therefore receive 90 cigarettes a week, can purchase no others and are equally restricted for other goods; and whether he will take steps to remedy the matter.

Mr. Lawson

Steps are being taken to increase the supply of cigarettes available through N.A.A.F.I. Other goods sold through N.A.A.F.I. are already supplied on scale comparable with overseas Commands.

Flight-Lieutenant Teeling

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that numbers of British troops now stationed in the Channel Islands have been there for nearly six months; and when they are likely to be allowed leave.

Mr. Lawson

Leave from the Channel Islands opened on 4th October, and there will now be a regular leave service.
