HC Deb 09 October 1945 vol 414 c91W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Works the total cost of rendering Government offices at Storey's Gate bomb-proof; whether it is intended to retain these works; and what would be the cost of their removal and the restoration of the building to its original form.

Mr. Tomlinson

It is assumed that the Question refers to Government offices, Westminster, Southern Block, in the occupation of several Government Departments. The works, which were carried out over a period of years, included other services, but it is estimated that the expenditure applicable to protective works was about £775,000. It is doubtful whether the removal of these works would be practicable or economic and, in any event, it could not be contemplated at the present time.
