§ Mr. Garry Allighanasked the Undersecretary of State for Air how many airmen in Hong Kong are being used to build an aerodrome there for civilian aviation.
§ Mr. StracheyThe airfield now being built at Hong Kong is required for military purposes. There is little doubt that it will also have an important civil use. The men working on it belong to an airfield construction unit some 2,500 strong,1486W but I cannot give the exact number taking part in this work. We have asked the commander-in-chief to arrange for most of the work to be taken over by local labour.
