§ Mr. EdeThe total was 1,323,983. A large number of these experiments were simple inoculations and similar proceedings, performed either on behalf of official bodies with a view to the preservation of public health or directly for the diagnosis and treatment of disease in man or animals.
§ Mr. Viantasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Annual Return of Experiments on Living Animals for the years 1939 to 1944 can now be published.
§ Mr. EdeThis Return is one of many publications of which the issue has been suspended during the war 'because of the necessity of saving labour. The need for economy of labour and paper is still acute, and I regret that for the present I am not in a position to say when it may be possible to consider resumption of the publication of this Return.
