asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of operatives in all categories engaged in the cotton industry in June, 1938, June, 1945, and the number employed at the moment.

I have been asked to reply. The numbers of operatives in employment on cotton spinning and weaving are estimated as follows: June, 1938, 260,300; June, 1945, 202,000; September, 1945, 203,800. The figures relate to men aged 14 to 64, and women aged 14 to 59.
