HC Deb 20 November 1945 vol 416 cc398-9W
Sir H. Webbe

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air why members of the W.A.A.F. serving in the Middle East are refused home posting on the ground that they desire to marry, although such postings are granted to members of the A.T.S. and W.R.N.S.

Mr. Strachey

I would refer the hen. Member to the reply which I gave on this subject to my hon. Friend the Member for West Lewisham (Mr. Skeffington) on 24th October. As I said then, members of. the Women's Auxiliary Air Force are not compulsorily posted overseas and applications to be posted back to the United Kingdom in order to get married are considered on their merits in the same way as other applications for compassionate postings. The W.R.N.S. have a similar system to ours for dealing with these cases.
