§ Mr. Holmanasked the Under-Secretary of State for Air if, in view of the great services rendered by the Royal Observer Corps in the defence of this country during the war, it is proposed to incorporate it in the peacetime organisation of our air defences; and if so, to what extent.
§ Mr. StracheyThere is at present no substitute for the skill and experience of members of the Royal Observer Corps in aircraft identification and the Corps is being retained as an important and essential part of the organisation of our air defences. Details of the Royal Observer Corps postwar organisation and conditions of service have not yet been settled, but it is probable that in future the Corps will consist of a nucleus of members employed whole-time on administrative and similar duties, and a large number of members who will attend in their spare time for such training and exercises as will fit them for operational duty in time of need.
