§ Sir W. Smithersasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what action he proposes to take to assist repatriated civilian refugees who arrived in Britain destitute, particulars of which have been sent to him.
§ Mr. George HallRepatriated civilian internees who arrive in this country from the Far East and who have no resources of their own qualify for public assistance at established rates. A special fund has been organised for the benefit of any individuals who need further financial aid and all civilians repatriated were informed of this fund on their arrival. They are also entitled to such medical treatment as they need and are eligible either for a free passage back to the Far East or a grant to enable them to establish a home in this country if they remain here. I would refer the hon. Member to my written reply to a Question by the hon. Member for Ashford (Mr. E. P. Smith) as to the conditions governing these grants.
