§ Mr. Mikardoasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that new members of the Greek police forces, who have been trained by British officers, have taken an oath of allegiance, inter alia, to the King of Greece; and whether he proposes to take any steps to prevent actions which have the effect of prejudging the result of the plebiscite on the Greek Constitution.
§ Mr. BevinMy hon. Friend will no doubt be aware that under the present Constitution the Regent himself derives his authority from the King. The oath of allegiance is taken not only by the police but by all public servants under a law dated November, 1935, and I have no reason to believe that this practice is regarded as having the political implications described by my hon. Friend.
