HC Deb 14 November 1945 vol 415 c2282W
Viscountess Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the fact that the first applications for entering the Foreign Service are now proceeding, he will expedite the report of the committee which is considering the entrance of women into this service.

Mr. Bevin

This committee is making good progress and is expected to report in the near future. It is expected that examinations for the senior branch of the Foreign Service will continue to be held under the Reconstruction Regulations for another two years at least. If it is decided, following the committee's report, to admit women to the senior branch on the same terms as men, arrangements will be made to enable them to compete under these Regulations as soon as possible.
