§ Captain Swinglerasked the First Lord of the Admiralty how many officers and other ranks who were in receipt of retired pay or pensions prior to 3rd September, 1939, were re-employed during the war; and how many are now so re-employed.
Mr. AlexanderI regret that the information is not available in the form requested. The maximum number of retired officers re-employed at any one time during the war was 4,529 and that of pensioner ratings mobilised or retained, 25,880. The number of retired officers still serving is 2,471 but the corresponding figure for pensioner ratings could not be ascertained without considerable research.
