§ Colonel Ropnerasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that on thousands of acres sugar beet which has been lifted is still lying uncollected; and whether, in view of the danger of frost and the necessity to get the beet as soon as possible into clamps, he proposes to take any steps to provide special assistance, so far as labour is concerned.
§ Mr. T. WilliamsThe generally favourable weather conditions have enabled farmers to make good progress with the lifting of the sugar beet crop. My Department is warning farmers through the Press of the need for protecting the beets against the risk of frost and other damage, but I am not aware that the provision of labour for this purpose will call for special arrangements.
