HC Deb 12 November 1945 vol 415 cc1872-3W
Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is aware of the unsatisfactory hospitality provided for official foreign visitors to this country; and what steps he is taking to set up an effective organisation in order that a suitable welcome shall be extended to such visitors on arrival and during their stay here.

Mr. P. Noel-Baker

I am sure that my hon. Friend, like our visitors from abroad, will recognise the great difficulties of providing adequate accommodation in London at the present time. I have set up a special organisation in the Foreign Office to assist in the reception of the delegates to the forthcoming meetings of the Preparatory Commission of the United Nations Organisation and of the General Assembly of the United Nations. This special organisation will work in close touch with the Government Hospitality Fund. I am glad to assure the hon. Member that His Majesty's Government will do everything in their power to improve the arrangements for the reception of official visitors from other countries.
