§ Mr. Stamfordasked the Minister of Labour the number of inspectors employed by the Factory Department; the number of premises for which they are responsible; and the number of inspections made during the last 12 months for which figures are available.
§ Mr. IsaacsAt the end of 1944 the number of inspectors appointed under the Factories Act was 351. There were, in addition, 36 officers specially appointed for work in connection with factory canteens. There were about 250,000 premises within the scope of the Act. The work of the inspectors cannot be accurately measured by the number of inspections, but during that year some 380,000 visits were made to such premises.
