§ Lieutenant Skeffington-Lodgeasked the Secretary of State for War whether he will arrange to have stopped the explosions caused by the blowing up of old ammunition in the vicinity of Odell and Harrold in Bedfordshire and of Lavendon in Buckinghamshire, and whether, owing to the fact that the blast effect of these explosions is causing local nervous strain and is damaging house property in the area, this ammunition will be disposed of elsewhere.
§ Mr. LawsonThe destruction of explosives near ammunition dumps cannot be avoided altogether. From time to time deteriorated items are found which are dangerous to transport. Instructions have been given to limit such demolitions to one or two days a month and to a scale which will cause the least annoyance and no1236W damage. The depôt at Sharnbrook near Lavendon is not under my control, but I understand that large-scale demolition has been stopped and that all the work will be finished very shortly.
