Williamsasked the Minister of Agriculture what progress has been made in applying penicillin to the cure of cattle diseases in this country; and whether he anticipates that it will be possible, as a result, to improve present arrangements for dealing with bovine tuberculosis, mastitis and Johnnes disease.

Mr. WilliamsPenicillin is being used in experiments in the control of mastitis in dairy cows. The work is being carried out at several centres in England and Scotland under the co-ordination of the Agricultural Research Council. The stage has not yet been reached when definite conclusions can be drawn, but the results to date have justified an extension of the trials, and arrangements for this have been made. Penicillin therapy has not been found effective in the control of diseases such as bovine tuberculosis and Johnnes disease.
