§ Sir W. Smithersasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why the N.A.A.F.I. director of National Service Entertainment was granted exemption from national fireguard duty at E.N.S.A. headquarters; and upon whose recommendation this exemption was granted.
§ Mr. EdeI take it that the hon. Member is referring to Mr. Basil Dean. I am informed by the organiser of the fireguard arrangements at E.N.S.A. Headquarters that Mr. Dean was a member of the Home Guard and as such was exempt from any obligation to perform fireguard duties.
